October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. It is an unfortunate fact that any of you have been directly touched by Breast cancer, either yourself, a family member or a close friend. This year, as a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, I decided to create a new project to honor those who have been touched by this disease.
I have always loved fairy tales. One of my favorites was The Princess and The Pea. This project, Pink Princess and the Pea, is a stack of 6 mattress boxes in a canopy bed frame. Each mattress box contains a “Tag-olio” to hold photos and journaling. This project seems to “fit” with the encouragement of self exams. The pea represents the lump some have found during a self exam. I can only image the panic of discovering that lump in your breast.
I have set a up a donation website through Susan G Komen Passionately Pink for a Cure program. Anyone who makes a donation on that webpage will be entered into a drawing to win the original project shown or one of 3 kits to make your own Pink Princess and the Pea. Thank you to all who are willing to donate. Be assured that 100% of the donations on the website (see the link below) go to the Susan G Komen Foundation, a leader in the charge against Breast Cancer. Through this site, you will receive a receipt for your donation and information about how your money aids in the fight against Breast Cancer. (The site is secure and no money passes through my hands.)

The Princess an the Pea project is the first in a new series: the Once Upon a Time Series. The Once Upon a Time projects are 3 dimensional projects that are inspired by fairy tales and folklore from around the world. Each project will have two different looks: one a light palette and one a darker palette. All kits contain materials to create both the project and a mini album. All kits also include the pattern/tutorial to create the project and corresponding mini album. Patterns are sent electronically.
This ongoing series will be scheduled regularly, but not on a monthly schedule. The order the projects will be released will depend on when the paper and or embellishments for the projects are available.
The Reservation system I am using was developed to guarantee that you will be able to receive all of the Once upon a Time projects. The deposit is essentially much like putting down a last month deposit on an apartment. As long as the deposit remains in place, you will be guaranteed to receive the next Once Upon a Time project.
Most Projects will have a Primary Version and a Secondary Version. Both will use the same pattern and will typically be different only cosmetically or with minor changes. The instructions for both versions will be included in the pattern. When you have a Reservation deposit in place, you have the option of receiving the Primary Kit, or the Secondary Kit, or if you wish, can you can purchase both versions.
You will receive further information to download upon purchase of your Reservation.
And Laura hits another home run with this one. Just lovely and fun new series.
Another fabulous project and series. I am constantly amazed by the variety of the projects Laura comes up with, and love them all.
I love this project!! I have 4 granddaughters and this will be perfect to make each mattress a photo album for each girl and the other 2 for my sons and daughter in laws. My MIL lost her fight with breast cancer at the age of 52 , and I myself have had numerous lumps. This is so representative of “feeling the lump” with your project. Great cause-great project!

I do not donate to the Susan G Komen organization anymore, and I do have breast cancer. Is there a way we could have our donation go to the American Cancer Society instead?
This is a project close to my heart and we have breast cancer awareness pink ribbons in the UK. I lost my only beloved sister to breast cancer in 2002 she was 45 years old.
I know this is a profoundly sad subject for many people, women and men alike die from this disease every year.
Due to the charitably funded, dedicated research of scientific teams around the world, we are able to save many lives but many is not enough!
Let us all join in the fight to stamp out this hideous disease forever!
Thank you Laura for working hard and giving of your time to raise awareness that this important work often depending on the financial support of charities worldwide, every penny raised is a step closer to prevention and cure.
From the botton of my heart I also give thanks, to anyone who can afford to contribute small or large it all counts.
Much love and prayers to anyone who had been touched by breast cancer.
Love this project! My Mom always says I am that Princess; I can feel the slightest bump in my bed and it keeps me awake all night. My Mom has breast cancer. She just finished her radiation treatments, and we hope she will be cancer free for many years. My best friend died of Breast Cancer in 2007 at the age of 43. I still miss her very much. This is such a worthy cause and I am happy to help support it even though I missed the drawing for the projects. Keep up the great work Laura!
