Day one of CHA Summer 2013…otherwise now known a Create and Connect…is done. WHAT A DAY!!!
I began my day with panic situation. I was up early to finish off final details on the sample for the class that we would be giving away. No problem, got them done. Next up, pack everything to head over the Convention Center to combine the chipboard and cardstock that I had cut with the G45 product for the project kits. This is where the “fun” began…
I must, at this point, tell the story of security at the airpost. Those that follow me on Facebook, know that the project I made for G45 was inspected by TSA security. Pretty much knew it was a given….gears, chains, a working clock and empty CO2 cartridges were a guarentee to raise flags with them. My other carry-on bag…which held HALF of the chipboard needed for class…was also inspected. I recall the agent taking the hube block of chipboard out of the carry one and saying” This must be the culprite!” Meanwhile the first agent was inspecting my project. Once I was able to prove that the CO2 cartridges were empty, he was curious as to how something like this was made. While I carried on a converstion with Agent #1, Agent # 2 put my carry on thru xray again. While answering Agent #1’s questions, I never saw if Agent #2 put the chipboard back in my case. You can see where this is headed, right….it didn’t make into my case…..que the dramatic movie music here….
This morning, as I packed to head to the convention center, panic set in…..where was the second bag of chipboard? It was NOT here!….more dramatic music…
So I hyperventilated…
Then I swore when I realized where it had to be…
Then I cried for 15 miutes or so…..
Then I told myself what I tell all my students – This is a creative opportunity. (OPORTUNITY! My A**. This is a catastrope! said the other side of my brain!) So I ended the panicked pity party and figured out how to make a mini album with half the chipboard. I am fortunate to have the ability to think quickly on my feet, so put my exhausted brain to work and came up with a solution Whew! it worked!
A bit too much stress for the day. I currently have two martini’s in me so I am feeling MUCH better!! I am looking forward to the start of the show tomorrow and will be posting to Instagram/Facebook throughout the day. My Facebook name is under lauraddension and my Instagram name is @lauraddenison.
Regardless of the mishap with the chipboard, it was a successful class….awesome group of ladies and gentlemen. Hugs to all that were there…they were amazing! A HUGE short out to Graphic 45….especially to Charee and to Joanna, my helpers. I love my G45 family!!
More tomorrow!
Laura
Oh my god, what a situation to be put in, but I´m sooo glad, you managed to find a solution so quickly. I must admit, I think, I would have panicced BIIIIIIIIIIG time, if it had been me ha ha ha.
I really wish, you had shown us a picture ofthe project, so we could have seen, what it was about too, since we can´t get a chance to go there and see any of your awesome projects live. But I´ll look forward to see all your amazing projects real soon hun. Have a wonderful time there at CHA, and please don´t worry too much, but also take the time to enjoy the time there.
Hi Laura,
My goodness what a stressful start. You know Agent #2 kept the chipboard for his wife. Hehe. Glad it worked out and your class was a success( as always). Enjoy the rest of the show and take time to breathe.
Gosh I am so sorry about your airport fiasco. Have fun at hia I wish I could be a fly in your suitcase.
I know all too well that awful feeling of missing parts and pieces!! So glad everything worked out for you!! Enjoy CHA!!
Oh Bless your Heart!!!! Well what a mess up and thank goodness that day is GONE!!!! That was definitely a “Keep Calm & Carry On” day for you! Today will be a great fresh new day! HAVE FUN!!!!!!
Bleh – what crazytalk! I’m surprised nobody in the whole of CHA had chipboard for you to buy/borrow! Glad you were able to make it work. Like you needed that kind of stress right now. Have fun anyway!
Laura, I have no doubt that your improvised revision is equally fantastic. After all, you are miracle worker. Have a great class and enjoy!!!!! Just glad you actually made it thru security. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that one. LOL. I am sure when all is said and done, you will look back on this and have a good laugh.

Happy to hear all went well, minus a few bumps. Maybe your hubby can go down to the airport and pick up the missing chipboard? Have fun.
That was a stressful Story
Ode to Chipboard….who would of thought something we ll love could cause such stress?! Thank goodness you are so talented and Vegas has plenty of alcoholic beverages!
