What a fun class today on Ustream!! We really do have the best crowd on the net! Thank you all!
During the show we had a bit of a brainstorm session for a project series for next year. The Bird Abode houses have been sooo much fun, but they will be ending with the March house (WOW! nearly a year already!!) There were severl awesome ideas that flew around…I loved it! There was one that really jumped out and got my mind a buzzin’! Someone suggested (who was that??) that we do a world tour. *Bing* the light bulb went off….
Before I started paper crafting, I was a quilter and quilt pattern designer. I had a 50+ pattern series of lap sized quilts that were inspired by destinations around the world.
It was a fun series that I taught monthly at several local quilt shops. Each student received a “passport” at their first Passport Quilt class and they got a sticker for their passport with each quilt they either took the class for or that they completed. Once their 12 page passport was full, they received an exclusive pattern for free.
The wheels have been turning since class……hmmm……we can use the same concept for paper crafts! Starting in January (kits in December), I will be starting a Travel Club! Each month, a project will be inspired by a destination around the globe. “Inspiration” can be a very broad term and the influence can be literal or a little more obscure…..for example, when I think of Italy, I think food. So, maybe the project inspired by Italy is a recipe book. The projects can be a simple mini album, a constructed piece or just about any paper craft. The theme will be influenced by an international destination but the theme will be broad enough for any type of photos. I think you get the picture. The possibilities are as big as the imagination. Just like with my quilt classes, everyone who purchases a pattern or kit with the Travel club will get a sticker (hmmmm…or maybe a STAMP) for their passport. We can make our passports and a travel case when we kick off the series.
I am thinking there will be 4 levels of involvement in the Travel Club Reservation System:
World Tour Level Reserve /commit to the entire years worth of projects (estimated to be in the $45 to $75 per kit price range), paid quarterly. This 1st Class level with receive exclusive quarterly bonus patterns and an exclusive project kit at the end of 12 months.
Inter-contenental Level Reserve kits on a quarter to quarter basis. This level will receive an exclusive bonus pattern for each quarter they purchase.
City Tour Level Reserve individual kits on an individual basis. You can pick and choose the projects you want.
Road Trip For the more independant spirit, you can puchase the kits on an ala carte basis or just get the pattern and chart your own course from your stash!
This will be a series on Youtube and I will also put the videos on my blog for future reference. I am still working on the details, so stay tuned for more details down the road.
My brain is in full on idea overload and I can’t wait to get started….
See you all on Friday at 7pm PDT as we continue working on the Carriage Ride project.

omg omg im sooo in!!! i love this idea and im sure the hubby agrees i have to travel first class hehe Cant wait for this to start!!!! 🙂
OH MY what a fantastic idea, I always miss the live times, but love catching up later – and you are right Laura, it is the best show in town. I am so excited by this idea of travel and though I am pretty new and never made one of your projects yet, I have learned techniques, like the binding and done them on a small scale. So I am really stoked by starting out the New Year with you and committing to going First Class. The papers and collections that you use for every thing are the absolute top of the range and always my favourites. This would be fun and a great learning experience. Please let us know when you are taking bookings. So exciting. Have a wonderful day.
What a fun idea. I haven’t traveled much outside the US but I have been to almost every National Park in the west. That could be a whole other series for you. Great places of North America. Love anything you do and I always learn something from every project. Have a nice sample book made of all the different bindings and pockets so I can mix and match in my own projects. Love your you tubes too. thanks as always for sharing.
Sounds fun, Laura. I LOVE hearing the enthusiasm back in your voice. We always know you’re feeling better when your wheels are turning. 🙂 Thanks again for all you do. You definitely keep us inspired!
Sounds great!…looking forward to it…and am happy it will be on youtube since I have such issues with ustream!
Great theme for 2014 monthly projects! Glad to hear the excitement in your voice!. I will travel the world with you in 2014!
I had to leave early and didn’t get to get involved
in the suggestions…I have a grand-daughter turning
16 in July, 14. I thought maybe we could come up with
a project for sweet 16, you have a daughter that’s right
behind my grand-daughter. It might be fun.
