A couple of weeks ago I received an email from a gentleman named Michael Tortorello. He is a writer with the New York Times.
What?
First step….checked him out.
Yep, he’s for real. He really does write for the New York Times. *insert my mouth dropping here*
He was doing an article on Fairy Houses and had come across my Enchanted Garden Series in his research. *insert squeal here*
After chatting via email, I sent off several of the patterns and photos. I am mentioned and my blog linked near the end of the article. My photos weren’t high resolution enough to be included, but…
My work was mentioned in the NEW YORK TIMES!!! I am so freaking excited I could flip!
Here is the link to check it out: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/02/garden/leave-your-wings-at-the-door.html
For those who may be visiting my website, here are photos of some of my Fairy Houses….the wee ones have given me permission to show them off!

We knew you when,LOL Congrats on making the big time and such a wonderful article as well. Well deserved!
Goodness gracious!!!!! Well done you.
Laura, this is so exciting for you! When you come down from Cloud 9 —
What about us? What will all this publicity do to poor us? We’ll have to take turns volunteering to come out to Seattle to help you with kits and mailing! It turns out I have two nephews, a niece-in-law, a niece and nephew-in-law and great nephew in the Seattle area now (and a great niece due any time now), so I’ve plenty of reason to come out and help you….
What’s the date of the article! I’ll need to scrap it of course!
Laura, of course ignore the question about the article — I’ve already forwarded your email to friends in NYC, most read the paper electronically (as do I), but I’ve asked them to scour recycling bins for a hard copy for me! 🙂
Laura: How thrilling and exciting for you. You deserve the recognition! Congratulations & celebrate you. I need to start on one of my fairy houses & finish (or one of the many other projects I have stashed). You are an inspiration! Peace & blessings
Congratulations Laura! So well deserved–finally someone saw the light and recognized your great contribution to the scrapping world.
